City of Riverside Encourages Donations of Medical Face Masks to sister city of Jiangmen, China

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The City of Riverside and its International Relations Council are asking local physicians and medical groups to honor a request by the Riverside County Medical Association to donate protective medical face masks for use by Riverside’s sister city of Jiangmen, China.

Supplies of medical face masks have rapidly diminished in Jiangmen since the outbreak of Coronavirus in Wuhan, about 700 miles away. Jiangmen has sent a team of doctors and medical personnel to help with Coronavirus patients since the outbreak at the end of last year.

Jiangmen has seen two reported cases of the virus, raising serious concerns.

To get the face masks to Jiangmen as quickly as possible, organizers have set a donation deadline of Friday, Feb. 21. Donations may be dropped off at the Riverside County Medical Association, 3993 Jurupa Ave., Riverside, CA 92506.

Donations of cash or checks can be made to the International Relations Council of Riverside at P.O. Box 2221, Riverside, CA 92516. The IRC will use donations to purchase medical protective gear recommended by the RCMA.

“I’m grateful for all the brave doctors and medical personnel that rose to the occasion in helping those stricken with this illness,” Mayor Rusty Bailey said. “We want to support our sister city as best we can during this public health issue.”

Questions and concerns can be directed to 951-826-5692.
