The City of Riverside is currently working with Historic Resources Group and the University of California, Riverside (UCR) on the development of a citywide historic context statement to document lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ+) history in Riverside. The historic context statement will be organized around contextual themes and identify significant people, places, and spaces associated with those themes. Spanning from the 19th century to the early 21st century, the document will provide a foundation for identifying, interpreting, and landmarking properties.
City staff, along with the consultant team and UCR, will be engaging with the community throughout the project, both to keep the community apprised of the project status and to solicit feedback and input. To that end, we hope to hear from all of you to help us tell Riverside’s story.
