Biography

Councilwoman Gaby Plascencia is an education champion who has been an active member of the Riverside community for more than two decades. A product of Riverside’s public schools and a resident of the City of Riverside for more than 30 years. Gaby has been committed to giving back to her community throughout her adult life. As a School Counselor, she has personally mentored our youth, helping connect students with college and career pathways to prepare them for a successful future in our community. Gaby presently serves as a School Counselor with Loma Vista Middle School, and previously served the students in the Alvord Unified School District at Norte Vista High School where she graduated. She has also worked as a School Counselor with Riverside Unified School District at Central Middle School, University Heights Middle School, Sierra Middle School, and Ramona High School.

Gaby is a Member and Past-President of the Riverside Latino Network, where she focused on developing scholarship and leadership programs for the youth. She served as a City Commissioner on the Budget Engagement Commission, giving her a unique perspective on the City’s financial outlook and helping to direct Measure Z, a Riverside City revenue measure passed in 2016, to provide direction to the City’s highest priorities. As a Member of the Friends of the Citrus Park Board, she’s helped to leverage relationships with community groups and educational institutions to support programming for, and investments in, the California State Citrus Historic Park. Gaby has served as a Member of the Measure O Committee overseeing capital investments in the Riverside Unified School District.

As the first Latina elected to the Riverside City Council, Gaby understands the importance of representation at every level of government, particularly at the local level where so many decisions that impact communities of color are made.

Gaby has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from California State University Dominguez Hills, a Master of Science Degree in Counseling and her Pupil Personnel Services Credential from California State University Los Angeles, and an Administrative Services Credential from the Riverside County Office of Education. She has lived in Ward 5 with her husband, Sam and their daughter Ari for thirteen years.

Councilmember Gaby Plascencia and the ADMG Team invite you to participate in a virtual community meeting on November 16, 2020, at 6:00 pm to discuss a multi-family dwelling project near Van Buren Blvd and Indiana Ave. The project sits on 6+ acres of vacant land and the project is considering 172 residential units. The project would gain access off Van Buren Blvd and Myers St but may impact other local roads including Diana Ave and Primrose Dr. We are excited to share the preliminary plans and look forward to your participation and input.
