Doors Open Event Highlighting Downtown Architecture Returns Thursday

Free event offers a look inside enchanting historic buildings from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Doors Open event is back! The City of Riverside, in partnership with the Riverside Downtown Partnership, and the Mission Inn Museum and Foundation, is hosting the city’s third annual Doors Open event.

Doors Open events began over 30 years ago in France and has since spread across Europe, North America, and Australia. These events provide free access to captivating historic sites that are usually closed to the public.

Buildings and structure that will be available for viewing in Riverside for the first time this year include: Riverside County Superior Court, White Park, Calvary Presbyterian, Riverside Women’s Club, Ruhnau Clarke Architects, the Santa Fe Depot, Thee Olde Chapel and the pergola on Mission Inn Avenue near Heroes Restaurant and Brewery.

Historic buildings that will return to the tour this year include: The Riverside Municipal Auditorium, First Church of Christ Scientist, First Congregational Church, Universalist Unitarian Church, the RCC Center for Social Justice and Civil Liberties (former Citrus Trust), the Culver Center for the Arts (former Rouse Department Store), the Arcade Building occupied by Krieger & Stewart, Loft.84 in the Aurea Vista Building, the Bonnett Building and more.

By opening the doors to these architectural gems, event organizers hope to increase awareness of historic architecture and the community’s collective heritage.

Most tours begin at 6 p.m. and occur every twenty minutes, but some start earlier, so visit the website -- DoorsOpenRiverside.com -- for the correct tours and times. Visitors also can stop at the event’s information station outside the Main Library, 3581 Mission Inn Avenue, and pick up a map.
