OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING INVESTIGATION

Riverside, CA – On Sunday, March 7, 2021 shortly before midnight, two Riverside Police Officers were patrolling a business complex, located in the 1700 block of University Avenue in Riverside, when they observed a black vehicle occupied by two men parked in the rear parking lot area.  As they approached and were contacting the two men, the driver put the vehicle in reverse, striking both officers.  An officer involved shooting then occurred.

The driver stopped then sped the vehicle forward where it collided into a parked car.  The passenger immediately surrendered and the driver was taken into custody as assisting officers arrived.  The passenger sustained minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.  The driver sustained gunshot wounds and was also transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

One officer was treated for his injuries at the scene, and the second officer was transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation and treatment.

Investigators with the Riverside County District Attorney’s Bureau of Investigation responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.  They are being assisted by detectives with the Riverside Police Department’s Robbery – Homicide Unit, along with Specialists from the Forensics Unit.
